She Gets Up at 4:30am to Keep Up With Her Son. This Is Jessica’s Story.

Jessica smiling after a semi-private personal training session at Block Fitness

Semi-private personal training means a plan built just for Jessica, and a coach who knows her by name.

The alarm goes off at 4:30am.

Half the battle, Jessica says, is just getting up when it does.

But she gets up. A few days a week, before most of the world is moving, she gets in the car and comes to Block Fitness Catalina Foothills. And every single time, without exception, she walks out glad she came.

“Once I’m here it’s like, oh man, I’m so glad I came.”

Jessica has been training at Block Fitness for two years. She can do a 40-second dead hang. She doesn’t nap on weekends anymore. Her energy is different. Her body is different. And the reason she keeps setting that alarm — the reason that makes all of it worth it — is her son.

Watch her story.

What She Was Doing Before Semi-Private Personal Training

Jessica wasn’t sedentary before Block Fitness. She had tried CrossFit. She had done personal training at big box gyms.

Neither one worked the way she needed it to.

CrossFit’s workouts weren’t built around her. “I feel like I was maybe injuring myself more than helping.” The big box gym personal training was technically individual but felt generic. Boring.

What she needed was something in between — a program built specifically for her, in an environment that didn’t feel like working out alone.

She found it at Block Fitness.

“I love that I get to work on my own plan but also work side by side with other people who are working towards their own personal goals.”

That is semi-private personal training in one sentence. Individual programming. Real community. Neither one sacrificed for the other.

And something else happened that she didn’t expect.

“I was very surprised at how much stronger I actually was than I thought.”

Two years in, she can do a 40-second dead hang. Two years ago, that wasn’t possible. The strength was there — it just needed the right environment and the right progression to come out.

What She’s Actually Training For

Jessica’s son loves to go hiking. He loves fishing. He wants her there — keeping up, going further, staying out longer.

She wants that too.

“He loves to go hiking and fishing and I wanna be able to keep up with him and keep going.”

That is the goal. Not a number on a scale. Not a specific lift. A life she wants to be capable of living alongside someone she loves — now, and for a long time to come.

Because Jessica is also thinking about who she wants to be at 60.

“I want to be functional at 60. I don’t want to be shuffle-footing around and a fall risk.”

That kind of thinking — the long lens, the future-self orientation — is exactly what drives the most consistent, most committed members at Block Fitness. They are not training for next month. They are training for the next decade and beyond. They understand that the body they build now is the one they will live in later.

Jessica understands that. She acts on it at 4:30 in the morning.

He Gets to See Why

One of the things Jessica mentioned that stuck with us is this.

She brings her son to the Block Fitness family and friends workouts. He gets to train alongside her. He gets to see the gym she talks about. He gets to understand, in a way that goes beyond what she could explain at home, why his mom gets up before the sun a few days a week to come here.

“He gets to see why I get up really early every couple days a week to come and do this.”

That is a powerful thing to give a kid. Not just a fit parent. But a parent who models what it looks like to show up for yourself — consistently, before it’s convenient, because the reason matters enough.

Jessica said it directly in the video and it’s worth quoting in full:

“We show up for our spouses, our kids, our coworkers. At the end of the day, we also have to be a priority for ourselves.”

The Dopamine Dump Is Real

Jessica also mentioned something that every Block Fitness member knows but doesn’t always say out loud.

The dopamine dump when you leave.

That feeling — the energy, the clarity, the sense of having done something real before the rest of the world got started — is not a coincidence. It is a physiological response to hard physical work. And for Jessica, it has replaced the weekend naps and the feeling of time wasted doing nothing.

“I definitely have a lot more energy. On weekends I’m not napping. I’m not wasting my time doing nothing.”

Two years of consistent, progressive strength training changed her baseline. Not just in the gym. In her whole life.

Show Up for Yourself

Jessica’s message at the end of the video is simple. Direct. Earned.

“Just do it. Show up for yourself.”

She knows what it costs. She sets an alarm for 4:30am. She knows what it produces. She can dead hang for 40 seconds. She keeps up with her son on the trail. She is building a body that will be functional at 60 when most people her age are starting to shuffle.

Show up for yourself.

The rest follows.

If Jessica’s story sounds familiar — if you’re ready to set that alarm and find out what two years of consistent, coached training can do — we’d love to meet you at Block Fitness Catalina Foothills.

Move Better. Feel Better. Live Stronger.

Quick Take: FAQ

Q: Do I have to come this early in the morning?
A: Not at all. Block Fitness Catalina Foothills offers sessions across multiple time slots. Early morning works for Jessica because of her schedule. We will find what works for yours.

Q: What if I’ve been injured doing other programs like CrossFit?
A: This is one of the most common things we hear from new members. When programming is not built around you specifically, the risk of injury goes up. Our assessment process identifies your history, your limitations, and your current capacity before we put a single exercise in your program.

Q: How is this different from big box gym personal training?
A: The program is truly individualized, the coaching is consistent, and the environment is built around a community of adults working toward real goals. Jessica described the difference better than we can: her own plan, side by side with people working toward their own.
